Mamdouh Habib: Nightmares return as police capsicum-spray him
At about 10.30-11.00pm Wednesday evening, dozens gathered after a man was shot in Blaxcell St., Granville; among them Mamdouh Habib and one of his sons. Police immediately targeted Mr Habib and his son, capsicum-sprayed them and threw them in a paddy wagon. No one else was taken in for questioning.
At the Police Station, Mr Habib and his son were physically abused, stripped naked and given white clothings. Both were released without charges in the early hours of Thursday morning without a cent or assistance - Mr Habib's car and his and his sons personal belongings including clothings and wallet were kept by police. [It is 10pm Thursday evening their belongings are yet to be returned].
Mamdouh Habib is a family man, a former US military Guantanamo hostage who was tortured and traumatised.
The nightmares Mr Habib has gone through while in the hands of his torturers in Pakistan, Egypt and Guantanamo, were again brought to him by this sudden arrest and abuse.
Police behaviour towards Mr Habib was abusive and in no way justified. Theirs was a vile and coward act. This is the NSW Police.
Mamdouh Habib is a member of the Canterbury-Bankstown Peace Group. As one of our members and as human being we demand justice for Mamdouh.

MOUSTAFA HABIB, the teenage son of the former Guantanamo Bay inmate Mamdouh Habib, had tear gas sprayed in his face by police after the shooting in Granville on Wednesday night.
Mr Habib and his son were driving down Blaxcell Street at the time of the shooting, in which two people died.
A Habib family lawyer, Peter Erman, said a series of misunderstandings led to the fracas involving the police and the two Habibs. "[Mamdouh] Habib actually called the police," Mr Erman said.
"He was happy to provide the police with a statement. However, he wanted to take his car and his son back home first. The police had other ideas because they said his car was part of the crime scene."
The Habibs objected when police tried to prevent them driving off. Mr Erman said Moustafa intervened and was sprayed with tear gas. There were further exchanges of a physical nature as Mr Habib tried to "prevent an injury to his son".
Police said neither Mr Habib nor his son had any connection to the Granville killings.

Peacenik, certainly Christians have done their share of killing in past centuries. In recent times, Protestant England has made terrible attacks and attempts at genocide on the Catholic Irish. However, haven't you noticed that Christians, Catholics, etc, have PROGRESSED and EVOLVED and in this modern age I don't know of ANY Catholics/Christians who still believe it's OK to use violence to force people to convert. I don't know of any Christians who are presently involved in violence against certain races or religions. I don't know of any Christians who are suicide bombers, who bomb trains and generally kill for the heck of it. There are fundamentalist Christians around who can be most annoying, but they're not DANGEROUS. Fundamentalist Moslems ARE DANGEROUS and determined to kill the infidels, gays, atheists, Jews, etc and not only feel no guilt about it, but believe they fast-track themselves to heaven if they die in the process. Sure there are peaceful Moslems out there. I have a Moslem doctor and he's the greatest. But I greatly FEAR those Moslems who have the other point of view, who are so angry about the Israel-Palestine situation that even though they might not be Palestinian, they are prepared to kill Jews and Westerners. Many millions of Moslems too, are living 14th Century lives, treating their women like servants, circumcising small girls, stoning adulterers and gays to death and generally behaving in an uncivilized manner. Show me where fundamentalist Christians are living this kind of lifestyle! Or Jews for that matter! It seems our greater ability to adapt to modern times has served us well. NSW Police issue capsicum spray (OC). They are certainly not "the same thing" and are vastly different in there severity and effect. OC is used when to stop or prevent violent physical confrontation. Mr Habib and his son were carrying on like pork chops and shoving the Police. Huge crowd turns out and eggs them on. Police take them in. Had nothing to do with "who" they were, it was because they were first on the scene, possibly involved (who knows at that first stage of a shooting who is and isn't involved especially when someones standing over the dead mans body) and carrying on like idiots abusing the Police.
If you're going to bitch about something, make sure you get your shit squared away and have your facts right and not simply spurting out dribble and retoric from a bias personal opion or belief.

If Mr Habib wasn't previously a terrorist detainee then this story would not have been published. There is no such things as a peaceful protest group because there is always an agenda to seek publicity to their cause. Mr Habib was nothing more than this groups' meal ticket - whatever he did was always going to work in this groups favour. It is all now a question of intentions. After that there really is no more to say in blame or defence of anyone. Forget Israel, America, Christian, Buddhist or even Moslem sympathizes you are all infidel and therefore in the eyes of some nothing more than someone to be either converted of eliminated.

Okay, using the name Cops are Tops (like I do) seemed appropriate whenever the ignorance about police matters was so over the top that it needed some reply from someone with some basic knowledge. However, this imposter shows two things by his ignorant and hysterical reply: one, his attempts at humour are as bad as his knowledge of the issues. Two, his feeling that this site is 'his' (or hers) shows how deep a gulf independent media still has to cross.
Basic facts: Habib, who was considered off by his religious cohorts before he left for overseas, and his son (probably the one who helped kidnap his cousin and shaved her hair, kept her in a car boot to stop her having a free life here and all the while claiming that his pack of creeps wanted to ensure she stayed a 'true muslim sister') were out at night close to where some drug dealers who happend to be muslim got into a shootout. Luckily they were at point blank range so someone actually was killed and luckily too this was a piece of criminal garbage that deserved to die in prison, so the shooters saved the state some trouble ( and maybe a lot of innocent lives from his drug peddling and enforcing. Just think about the worries people might havehad in the future, getting shots into their houses all the time and then having to pretend to cops that they hadnt the faintest idea who could have done such a thing). All these hassles were saved by him being knocked in the street that night. Then this duo decided to stick their noses in and when the cops arrived decided to drive off and refused to stop. Well normal cops arent going to allow people in cars to drive off from a massive crime scene like this so they stop him. If he resisted police talking to him (maybe a "dont you know who i am" response) well it would have been a neglect of duty to let him drive off.

While the police are beating up on bystanders, depending on blind prejudice instead of real evidence, they are failing to do their primary job which is protecting the community. Not only that, but they prevent other (more honest and conscientious) police from doing their jobs too. The result is that no one wins and the real crooks walk around laughing.

You can walk around all you like saying "Cops are Tops" but the fact is that police are not held accountable for their actions and they routinely shield each other from scrutiny. I'm sure that most cops really do make an effort to do the right thing but it only takes a handful of bully boys to spoil it for everyone -- this bad behaviour goes unpunished again and again. People are not stupid, they know what goes on, and when they don't know who they can trust the only safe thing is to say nothing at all.
A culture of fear, hatred and distrust does not build a community. This is why fascist states ultimately self-destruct (and hurt a lot of people in the process), sadly... this is the direction we are going in NSW and it will no doubt get a lot worse before it gets better.
You police who are reading this think about it... you are getting paid to be the front line troops in an attempt to subjugate people by means of brute force. It won't work. How much human misery will it take before anyone recognises this? Any police officer who really wants to contribute to their community has to make a stand against corruption, prejudice and brutality now, or else explain to their kids and grand kids later on why they let things get so bad.

Police can't be trusted. Warning don't open any doors that don't need to be opened unless your life depends on it and you need to run away. And if that happens call the fire brigade at least you get six witnesses instead two bent cops!

The point here is - can you PROVE that there was "corruption, prejudice and brutality" in this instance? I mean, do you have any evidence to back this up, besides what Mamdouh said?
I can assure you that there will be video recordings, custody records, independent witnesses and corroborating Police statements about all this. And all it will show is that Mamdouh embelished the whole affair. And the Police did the right thing. Nice try.
Justice must be seen to be done
Habib is now attempting to sue the police, he obviously believes he has something that will stand up in court. See this article (from Murdoch). This isn't the only report of similar police action either.
Police are given greater powers than ordinary citizens so they must be held to a higher standard of conduct. If police deprived Habib of his car and wallet, they must document their actions and be willing to explain why these actions were necessary in persuit of justice. Without satisfactory explanation, the circle of distrust will continue... people do catch on when they are being lied to often enough. Only with clear and demonstrable public accountability can there be a bond of trust.
Sure, prejudice is difficult to prove. If it was easy to prove, it would be easy to get rid of. On the other hand, if police want community cooperation they must make themselves the example of good behaviour -- it is their job to demonstrate that they can be trusted. You give your assurances of video recordings and independent witnesses but I'll believe it when I see it and not a moment before. More likely it will be a closed court hearing with no jury and no information available to the public and a two line conclusion issued for the press; open to no scrutiny whatsoever. Bookmark this page and we will see who is right several years down the track when the case finally gets heard.
Police dont wonder at all
The police dont wonder why they arent getting help from this crew - now. But they might get it as the years go on. The current mob are well into the drug and gun scene (some of the gunmen being also involved in the Brighton window smashings after Cronulla in December too). No, they and most (if not all) the drive-by shooting 'victims' are part of it all and they have no incentive to talk. Fear of violent reprisals from the enforcers like the one who got shot will see to that for a while. As time goes on people (including the young female niece of Habib, who was terrorised by family members when she wanted to live freely) will grow into citizens who WILL report and assist against criminal garbage who bring shame onto their community. Like the Chinese and other Asians, this will happen over time as they absorb the idea that this is a country where crime and extortion and furious drug selling and use is against norms and that when you are a victim (and they ARE the victims) you must stand up to them and the police will help.

He apparently sees it as 'time' to face up to gangsterism within his community. It is when THAT sort of bridge is crossed that progress can be made. Now if only the police dept was smart enough to see that chance arising.

Police are out of control and have too much control and are involed in drug gangs and are drug dealers themselves who cover for gangs.
Now the problem is people who have been given grace by the cops themselves to be above the law and now it's all out of control.
Why? Becaue police don't listen nor do politicians none of them are worth speaking to - so people take the law into their own hands.
