Freedom of Speech and the N.S.W. Teachers Federation

The notorious N.S.W. Teachers Federation has been known to collaborate with the state government in sending dissenting, whistleblowing or allegedly 'difficult' public servants to HealthQuest, the N.S.W. government medical office, to be dealt with by doctors rather than any kind of legal process. Because of their strong links to the Labor Party, far from being on the side of the worker, they are in league with the employer.

See article How John Hennessy Betrayed Whistleblowers:

http://sydney.indymedia.org.au/story/how-john-hennessy-nsw-teachers-federation-betrayed-whistleblowers

Members who have requested help after being 'certified' with some non-existent condition are told that Federation does not get involved in 'medical matters'. They would have been useful collaborators with the Soviet regime in years past.

The Teachers Federation has no regard for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

See Article 19:

Members of the Teachers Federation can log into the Members Area and take part in 'discussion'. Several members have in the last 12 months attempted to contribute to the discussion on workplace bullying by telling their stories of how bullying led to the victims being referred to HealthQuest and certified insane, thus losing their jobs and being forced to medically retire.

On writing their opinions these members were confronted with a message that this is a moderated discussion and that their posts would have to be approved.

They never were approved, of course. The Teachers Federation will not allow any discussion of the N.S.W. government medical office, HealthQuest, in relation to bullying tactics. Shame on you Deb and Sue, who started the Bullying thread and requested contributions from members who were bullied.

Unions silencing their members, refusing to allow free speech on a message board that is not accessible to non-members - disgusting!

Just check out the Code of Ethics of the Teachers Federation, published on their website:

Ethics of the NSW Teachers Federation

  1. Teachers and other educational personnel employed in any area of public education should be members of the New South Wales Teachers Federation and uphold Federation's policy.

  2. Members should aim to improve the working conditions of all Federation members.

  3. Members should be loyal to colleagues at all times and refrain from adversely criticising them in the hearing of the public or students.

  4. Members should not take part in any undesirable competitions or activities which pit member against member and one school or educational institution against another in unhealthy rivalry.

  5. Members should not use their social, civic and political activities as a means of obtaining favour or preferment in the profession.

  6. A member should not use the press, radio or television as a means of concentrating public and employer attention on her/his own individual work.

  7. Members should zealously guard civil liberties and support colleagues in defending those rights.

  8. Members should foster the spirit of co-operation among students and co-operate with parents, employers and community groups in the advancement of pupils.

  9. No member should, in the hearing of other members or of students, criticise the work of other members. Comments by members in supervisory positions of the work of each teacher should be made directly and privately to the member concerned.

  10. Members should discourage the participation of students in public activity which have a commercial aim or background.

  11. Members shall not engage in harassment, victimisation or intimidation of other members or students.

  12. Members shall not engage in any form of racist behaviour, comments and dissemination of racist material.

Amended Code of Ethics as per the Executive decision of 1 July 1986.

Zealously guard civil liberties - how, by silencing dissent? By allowing members to be sent to HealthQuest as punishment for having an opinion and being certified insane, just as in Soviet Russia and a number of Communist countries?

Members should not engage in harassment, victimisation or intimidation of other members?

But this is happening all the time - and the Teachers Federation apparently approves of it. The end result of extreme victimisation is that the victim is sent to HealthQuest and accused of being mad. What worse victimisation is there than to be sent to a psychiatrist against your will and 'certified'?

Worse still your fellow union members are prepared to write pages and pages of lies and exaggerations about you in hopes of clawing their way up the ladder by being subservient to those above them.

The truth is that the N.S.W. Teachers Federation is the biggest bully, because when members turn to them for help, having paid membership fees for years, they are told that Federation will not prevent their being psychiatrically examined by some quack.

The N.S.W. Teachers Federation is a disgraceful excuse for a union, and add to that the Public Service Association.
