SPEAKERS:

 

CARMELA BARANOWSKA - Carmela is a Walkley Award-winning journalist and filmmaker who has worked in Afghanistan & East Timor. Her documentaries include: Taliban Country, Scenes from an Occupation and Welcome to Independence.

 

MARTIN REUSCH - Martin spent 2004-2005 in Afghanistan working with the International Red Cross and later with Caritas Germany. During this time he gained access to American-run prisons to review the conditions of prisoners and witnessed the impact of the foreign occupation of Afghanistan on everyday life. In 2006, as part of the Edmund Rice Centre’s ‘Deported to Danger 2’ initiative, he returned to Afghanistan to interview former asylum seekers who had been deported from Australia. Martin also lived in Iran for 10 years and is a fluent Farsi speaker.
