Barunga Festival is one of Australia's major and longest-running Indigenous community festivals. It is celebrated in this Aboriginal community each year over the Queen's Birthday long weekend June.

Music is the highlight of the Festival, with Contemporary and Traditional musicians and Dancers performing from all over the Northern Territory and beyond, including Archie Roach & Ruby Hunter alongside locals Saltwater Band, Wildflower, a Battle of the Bands competition and many more.

Other cultural activities including Bungul or Traditional Dance, Arts and Crafts demonstrations and Exhibitions, Bush Tucker Tasting, Outdoor Cinema, Storytelling and Spear Throwing are all regular elements of the festival and you can buy art direct from local artists!

The David Blanasi Art Prize and the P Fordham Emerging Artist Award will be awarded over the weekend, independently judged and including $7000 worth of prizes.

A full Sports program runs throughout and attracts participants from remote communities throughout the Territory who keenly compete in football, basketball, and athletics.

Visitors can camp in this exceptional community during the alcohol-free festival with opportunities to meet and talk to residents who will share their stories and culture.
