See the film which proved too controversial for Australian TV!
In 2006, after ten years of stability, prosperity and relative peace, Lebanon was attacked by Israel. Lebanon Burning is a new documentary film about this invasion.
The film premiered at the 2008 Sydney Arab Film Festival but proved too controversial for Australian TV, having been rejected by the ABC and SBS as well as Channels 7, 9 and 10.
Israel's attack targeted civilian infrastructure including Beirut's airport and killed close to 1000 civilians. One million people were displaced from their homes and unexploded cluster bomblets mean some homes in Southern Lebanon remain uninhabitable. In Lebanon Burning the ordinary people of Lebanon tell their stories and provide us with a riveting oral history of the recent past.
Peter Manning, who directed Lebanon Burning, is a former Executive Producer of the ABC current affairs program 'Four Corners'. As a respected journalist and media commentator, Manning has criticised the public, government-led and media-driven hysteria about Australians known as 'people of Middle Eastern appearance'.
Producer Mohsen Safieddin has lived and worked in Adelaide, South Australia for over 13 years but his parents and most of his family still live in Lebanon where they suffered the effects of the 2006 war.
