OzPoliCon 2008
On October 18, 2008 Australian
Politics TV will host Australia’s first ever politico
bloggers and online activists conference.
There has been a growing wealth of
activism taking place on the Internet. From blogs, to YouTube, to
discussion boards, online sit-ins, electronic parliament role playing
forums and even MySpace and FaceBook with their respective ’cause’
applications users can add to their profiles.
There is also evidence of an increased
‘professionalism’ of online activism with the advent of groups
like GetUp! here in Australia, which followed similar kinds of online
groups formed to support Democrats in the presidential and general
elections in 2004. These proved to be a very successful method of
engaging people in the US and has shown a great deal of support among
Australia’s online community.
In addition it’s hard to ignore the
weight that the increase in political blogging has contributed to
election and issue-based campaigns. There is a very quickly growing
list of blogs dedicated to Australian politics and how it relates to
people locally, state-wide, nationally and internationally. And there
is a growing number of tools and social networking sites developing
based on these kinds of things.
The conference represents the first
inaugural politico bloggers and online activists gathering. The
purpose of which is to share information, experiences and knowledge
about online activism, campaigning methods and techniques; which of
course involves politics organised and unorganised. It is also an
opportunity to discuss current trends in technology use and online
issue-based and election campaigning, electronic civil disobedience
and Australia’s Internet and communications laws.
And you can participate from the
comfort of your own home, office, favourite coffee shop or wherever
you are with your computer and Internet!

registration form are now available
