DJ AFRIKA BAMBAATAA is making a
rare appearance across five states in Australia as the first tour of fledgling
Aboriginal company KISSmyBLAKarts. This event is more than a celebration of the
artist who is recognised by life magazine as one of the most influential people
of the 20th Century, but it is a return to a global consciousness and connect
between Aboriginal Australia and African American arts and social change
leaders.

Alleged environmental contamination at the Mount Gee Uranium deposit in the far north of South Australia is being investigated by the SA Government and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA). (ABC News Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:25pm AEDT). The plan to extract seven billion dollars worth of Uranium ore has been controversial from the outset, with Mount Gee being situated in the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and the mining process posing considerable threat to the ecology of the area and the ancient aquifers connected to the Paralana hot springs, a site of significance for the Adnyamathanha people reports Nigel Carney on 17th January 2008.

The Wilderness Society has launched a campaign to raise awareness with ANZ customers and the public. They need to know that the bank has a critical role in deciding the future of the environment and the health and livelihoods of people in Tasmania by funding Gunns Pulp Mill.
