Hello, my name is Barbara Shaw from Mt Nancy Town Camp in Alice Springs and I am a member of the Alice Springs Intervention Rollback Action Group.  We are writing to you to request your support and assistance.


Media Release: Aboriginal support groups condemn Rudd's blame the victim welfare policies

"Taking three months welfare payments from parents whose children fail to attend school will do nothing to improve the lives of Australia's poorest people. This blame the victim policy will do nothing to address the poverty of Indigenous Australia. Such policies have failed before and these will fail again," said Human Rights campaigner Lucy Honan from Stop the Intervention Collective Sydney (STICS).

      Between 1940 and 1945, sixty-one German cities with a total population of
      25 millions were destroyed or devastated in a bombing campaign initiated
      by the British government. Destruction on this scale had no other purpose
      than the indiscriminate mass murder of as many German people as possible
      quite regardless of their civilian status. It led to retaliatory bombing
      resulting in 60,000 British dead and 86,000 injured.

One year after the previous federal government announced the Northern Territory Emergency Response, there will be a national day of action on June 21 in cities across the country. Rallies have been organized for Alice Springs, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Townsville, Wollongong, Adelaide, Perth, and Darwin.

Today 22 Aboriginal community leaders from across Central Australia are beginning their bus trip to join the "Canberra Convergence". On the opening day of parliament they will rally with many more people from affected NT communities and supporters from across the country against the NT intervention.


Alice Springs voices opposition to nuclear waste dump

Anti-nuclear protesters confronted CLP candidate for Lingiari, Adam Giles, outside his Alice Springs office at 8:30 this morning.

About thirty protesters challenged Mr Giles to oppose the proposed nuclear waste dump. One of them stood beside Mr Giles wearing an "I'm with Stupid" t-shirt. Giles drove away, sarcastically remarking "don't get a job or anything while I'm gone"

September 8, 2007 to read a statement opposing the Howard-Bush military
alliance and Global Nuclear Energy Partnership agreement signed earlier

passing cars, but no workers, security or police interrupted the action!
