A bit of a change from criminals in the Public Service
Just wondering what you're all using, really. Apple is opening one of its exclusive stores on the corner of King and George Streets next year. My son has been chosen for a position as Apple Genius. So obviously I have a house full of Apples. I never have to think Control-Alt-Delete again.
Re: Which is the better computer, Apple or PC?
"better" means different things to different people.
I guess it's not so much the computer as what you can do with it that will answer that question. I'm an IT manager at an educational institution and It's all Apple (some running windows) hardware because I think it's a better option for a variety of reasons. Reliability, versatility, support, ease of use and, surprisingly to some, cheaper than a comparable PC also.
So what's your boy going to do in the 3 months before the store opens?
Apple rules
He's fixing computers in his spare time (he's got the certification from Apple) and stacking shelves in Coles. He can't wait to meet Steve Jobs early next year. It's his lifelong dream.

please IT manager i need your help, I would like to buy a laptop but first I want to know every simple feature about apple laptops and PC laptops ( the advantages and disadvantages for each)
thanks

Quantum Computer
Quantum computer, wow
A quantum computer is any device for computation that makes direct use of distinctively quantum mechanical phenomena, such as superposition and entanglement, to perform operations on data. In a classical (or conventional) computer, information is stored as bits; in a quantum computer, it is stored as qubits (quantum bits).
The basic principle of quantum computation is that the quantum
properties can be used to represent and structure data, and that
quantum mechanisms can be devised and built to perform operations with this data.[1]
Although quantum computing is still in its infancy, experiments have
been carried out in which quantum computational operations were
executed on a very small number of qubits.
Research in both theoretical and practical areas continues at a frantic
pace, and many national government and military funding agencies
support quantum computing research to develop quantum computers for
both civilian and national security purposes, such as cryptanalysis.[2] (See Timeline of quantum computing for details on current and past progress.)
If large-scale quantum computers can be built, they will be able to
solve certain problems exponentially faster than any of our current
classical computers (for example Shor's algorithm). Quantum computers are different from other computers such as DNA computers and traditional computers based on transistors. Some computing architectures such as optical computers may use classical superposition of electromagnetic waves, but without some specifically quantum mechanical resources such as entanglement, they have less potential for computational speed-up than quantum computers.
Re: Which is the better computer, Apple or PC?
The best computer for you is the one which you enjoy using most.
Personally I enjoy OS X, and Ubuntu pretty much.
On enjoying one's computer
That is so true. All my computers, by the way, are quite old. I have never had a new computer. I got more of a thrill when my son got me an old eMac than any rich person could possibly get going and buying something new. Ditto my five dollar quilt and my two dollar dressing gown. I feel sorry for people amassing millions. They probably never go to the Smith Family shop, find an old piece of china and have a smile on their face for a week.
Real geeks use IBM compatible PC's
Apple computers are popular because the general public demand computers to be very easy to use.
Apples are designed to have everything automated and taken care of regarding setup and configuration and ease of use. This is one reason they're bit more expensive than a IBM compatible personal computer.
Those of us who like to get into the workings of the "computer" prefer the IBM compatible, as it allows for easy customisation to your needs, without the expense of an "Apple brand" parts. With so many asian manufacturers making IBM compatible Video cards , memory, hard disks, you are not locked into one supplier as you are with an Apple monopoly.
If you want to upgrade with Apple you have to purchase their "brand named" (ie. expensive) add-on's. Although that is slowly changing, as Apples now use the Intel processors, inplace of the Motorola of the past, ie moving towards IBM compatible.
Just because you use a IBM PC it doesnt mean you have to suffer M$ Windoze, with so many flavours of Linux to choose from.
Imagine if Apple ported their Operating System to run on a IBM PC hardware platform, then everyone could afford an "apple type" computer. Of course they wouldn't do that with all the profits they're raking in by locking in buyers to their exclusive Apple brand hardware & software.
Real geeks use the best tool for the job..
...and leave the elitist flame wars to the wanna-bes ;)
BTW, linux runs on Apple computers too. Those who prefer to use open source software don't have to worry as much about the underlying hardware platform, because the software is open, and has been ported to much of the hardware available.
