Aboriginal Tent Embassy highlights Genocidal Government Policies

Sydney Australia, 7 September 2007
The Aboriginal Tent Embassy has set up a peaceful camp in Victoria park near Sydney University from the 31st August until the 15th September. The camp aims to highlight the ongoing genocidal policies of the Liberal Howard Government.
First and foremost the Tent Embassy is calling for the recognition of Aboriginal Sovereignty in Australia, A right that has never been ceded in over 200 years of occupation.
Residents of the Tent Embassy object to what John Howard is saying and doing with the recent intervention laws in the Northern Territory. Led by Mal Brough the Australian Government has continually lied about and distorted the findings and recommendations of the Little Children are Sacred report. Indigenous Australians are fed up with being used as a political football and being exploited for little more then wedge politics.
The intervention laws include the compulsory take over of indigenous land and business*, the dismantling of Indigenous organisations and are paving the way for the expansion of uranium mining in the Northern Territory. The Aboriginal Tent Embassy opposes the Liberal Governments uranium policies and Rio Tinto's approach to Sydney University with $21 million dollars for mining research**, with a clear aim of furthering John Howard's mining Ideals. The Tent Embassy opposes any Australian soil being used now, or at any time in the future as a radioactive nuclear waste dump.
The Indigenous people of the Tent Embassy invite any peaceful media, anti nuclear, and anti intervention people to come down for a yarn or camp.

I live nearby and have seen you live through the rains and bad weather. I would like to know your perspective.
"Advance Australia White"
I must say I don't like your 'national anthem' Advance Australia White. I resent being called 'ruthless and greedy'. I am not ruthless and greedy. I am poor and generous, I hope. If you are going to attack those of us who support you, you are just creating a huge divide. What is it you want from us? Going by that song, it seems you hate white people. It is not my fault I am here. My ancestors were subjected to attempted genocide by the English for hundreds of years, our culture, language and religion were banned and then several of my ancestors were arrested for sedition, found guilty by corrupt judges and forced to come over here against their will. They were never permitted to return home to their wives/husbands/children/famlies. Who is apologizing to me?
Aboriginal Tent Embassy and Live Futures 2020 futures festival
Dear Isobel and Darren
I would like to invite you to participate in a futures festival called Live Futures 2020: A world without borders on November 11 in Victoria Park.
Unfortunately I stopped by your embassy on a day you were out so i hope you check this site so you can let me know your thoughts. I will also stop by again. If anyone knows how i can get in touch with you directly please let me know.
We would love to invite you to share your view of what is possible by the year 2020 - we would like your voice included in all visions we have of what is possible and what it will take to get there. Our festival is particularly focused on young people so please invite them as well to share.
Thank you and I appreciate that we will be standing on your land on the day and ask you to share it with us.
With warm wishes for the future
Janine Cahill
