Catholics on the March: Judge says "It's about time" Karl Rove was arrested

Judge says "It's about time" Karl Rove was arrested Hotlist

Fri Aug 01, 2008 at 02:49:06 PM PDT

Courtesy of the good folk at Think Progress comes this story about the arraignment of the four Iowans who attempted to conduct a Citizen's arrest of Karl Rove back on July 25th.

UPDATED: Added link to the Think Progress story, not just TP.

IowaPolitics.com currently has a press release from the Des Moines Catholic Worker Home, where three of the four people involved come from. The key snippet:

After entering her plea, the judge asked Shaw, "Mamn, what were you doing at the Wakonda Country Club?"

"I was attempting to make a citizen's arrest of Karl Rove, your honor," Shaw answered.

"Well," the judge looked up and said, "it's about time."

It will be interesting to see what the trial brings out in this case
- whether the arrests had any actual legal basis, or were just because
people were bothering someone in a position of power. The fact that
Citizen's arrest is explicitly legal under the law in Iowa should make
this a fascinating study into legal rights in the state, and (to an
extent) in the United States.

Arrested for arresting Rove

3 People were arrested today in Iowa for attempting to place Karl Rove under citizens arrest!

Citing the Iowa Code, which allows citizen's arrests, the four
accused Rove of election fraud; conspiracy to commit offense or to
defraud the United States in the time before the Iraq war; and treason,
sedition and subversive activities for fraudulent acts leading to the
deaths of 300,000 Iraqi civilians and 4,000 U.S. Military personnel,
according to their arrest complaint.

Brown and Shaw attempted a similar arrest last March when Rove spoke
at the University of Iowa. They were arrested and released without
charges.

Apparently the malcontents behind this insidious attack on freedom and democracy are:

Retired Methodist minister Rev. Chet Guinn, 80, and three Des Moines
Catholic Workers, Edward Bloomer, 61, Kirk Brown, 25 and Mona Shaw, 57

Cheers to these brave souls, and I would be interested in discussing
with the dKos community whether this should be emulated in our towns?
If Rove shows up, lets arrest him! Why or why not?

Discuss!

The fact that these attempts at citizen arrests are necessary already show the nature of the state in the US .Even in those areas where sherrifs are democrativaly elected to enforce the laws.
rove was willingly acting under orders of the big criminals who have seized the power of the state.
