Petition to demand Aussie troops out of Afghanistan
The Canterbury-Bankstown Peace Group has a petition calling on the Australian Senate to demand the immediate withdrawal of Australian troops from Afghanistan.
Marlene Obeid, a member of CBPG, said that using the pretext of pursuing terrorists, successive governments have attempted to impose a 'pro-western' government on the people of Afghanistan.
"The invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, also used the pretext of pursuing those responsible for the attacks of September 11, 2001. No subsequent United Nations resolution can justify the denial of the Afghan people their right to self-determination," she added.
Fellow member Raul BAssi said the Australian Government continued to aid and abet the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan to maintain their preferred regime, contrary to the 1945 UN Charter, the 1960 Declaration on Decolonisation and the 1966 International Bill of Rights.
The petition demands that the Australian Government immediately withdraw all Australian troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and recognise the right of the Afghan and Iraqi people to self-determination, as noted in the first article of the International Bill of Rights.
The petition will be presented to the Senate in June. CBPG asks people to sign the petition and return it to the PO Box 109, Glebe 2037.

Why do you want troops out of Afghanistan?
I would be the first to say it was stupid to invade either Afghanistan or Iraq, but the U.N. basically approves of the occupation of Afghanistan by 37 countries, all of whom are concerned about human rights abuses there, and particularly the abuse of the rights of WOMEN. So if you manage to get Australia out with your petition, what are you going to do about the other 36 countries? I think you must be a member of militant Islam. Why else would you oppose western-style government in Afghanistan. What is wrong with western-style government? For all its faults (and there is corruption I know) a woman can live in Australia or the U.S. or most of those other 37 countries and not have to be afraid of:
*genital mutilation
*honour killings
*being beaten for not wearing a chador
*being beaten for showing her ankles
*being beaten lawfully by their husbands
*being married off to a dirty old man of 50 when aged twelve
*having their children brainwashed and turned into suicide bombers
*not being permitted an education
*being stoned to death
*being sentenced by a court to being lashed
So as far as I am concerned, you are WRONG. If all troops are withdrawn, the extremist Taliban will once again take control of the country and we will once again be subjected to horror stories of women being stoned to death for adultery and gay people being sentenced to death and young girls being forced into marriage. I am completely disgusted by these things, and if you are not, then you should be ashamed.
Maybe you have a secret wish that Australian women should be subjected to this kind of treatment.
I don't think we should invade any other countries that are under Sharia law - it's too much bother and expense - but now we are in Afghanistan, we have a chance to change things for 50% of that population (women) for the better.

the majority of people here have decency and good conduct at heart.
Yet, puzzlingly, they appear to support Islamic causes. It's something

I did some minor research, and it seems to me that these people are independent, and that the Aussies do not occupy or enslave them.
As politically incorrect as it may seem to the usual college professor, colonialism was NOT always the worst thing. Look at Sub-Saharan Africa, for example ...many of the former colnies have become absolute disasters and toilets since their colonial leaders left the scene (or were expelled).
Look at Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) for example----a hell hole. It once was a food exporter, but now it cannot even feed itself.

Inhabitants of US territories are not US citizens and have very limited voting right (eg no voting in national elections). Their rights are limited in many and varied ways. Im not an expert, but 15min of research could teach you these facts.

A muslim who loudly condemns the evil of islam is soon either a DEAD muslim or a muslim who has gone underground or obtained a loyal band of bodyguards.
This is not the case in Judaism or Christianity. A Jew or Christian who condemns their religion, will, AT MOST, be shunned or criticized---most likely, though, they will simply be ignored.

Truth is ,no i do not have much knowledge of the traditional/Othodox or liberal or reformed/deformed branches of Judaism either .Nor do i bother myself with all the ins an outs of Islam or the Hindu religion or a hundred other religions.
I have the beleif that a lot of people pray to gods ,but those that who claim to hear answers back, are usually considered by those people not hearing the voices, to be suffering from mental disorders, feeling persecuted by voices in their heads etc.
Psychiatrists often claim to be able to treat these people hearing voices with drug prescriptions .In ancient times say perhaps in the time of Muhammad or Moses Phychiatrists did not exist to give a ‘scientific “ opinion on these people.But thanks to your valuable lessons I can say I am learning a lot from a someone who claims to be a claimed believer of an Othodox or traditional Judaism . But whom I suspect to be motivated more by Zionist myth fantasy than traditional Judaism. But as I say its probably my ignorance, I am indeed no expert on the details of religious myths.

If it were not for Judeo-Christian religion (and even islam, which claims to follow both "faiths of the Book) and considers Jesus, Moses, Abraham as prophets, I do not see how we could have concepts of right/wrong, good/evil.
If some claim that we do not base our moral codes on religion, then ON WHAT do we base these codes?
I see the role of Judaism in the World as G-d has laid it out in the Torah, and as the commnetators generally interpret it.

I read today that the Australian government does not allow mosques to be built in Australia. Is that correct, or partially correct?

BTW, I had great respect for PM John Howard. Do you have any thoughts on why he was npt re-elected? Canada, France, Germany, UK, most former commie E. Europe nations, even Canada ---have ALL gone conservative and LESS accepting of muslims. Mosques in Australia
We have a lot of mosques here. There may have been some isolated cases of building applications for mosques being rejected.
It
is fine for Moslems to pray anwhere they want. Due to their requirement
to pray five times per day, many workplaces have a room set aside for
this purpose. We have very strong anti-discrimination legislation.
Of course, it would not be fine for Australian Christians
to migrate to Moslem countries and want to build Christian churches and
schools. In fact, in many cases, one could expect to be executed just
for putting in a building application.
From 1788 (the time
of the invasion by the British) Australia's official religion was
Church of England. In the very early days, the Catholic Church was
banned. For decades, Catholics were not permitted to work in the Public
Service. Judaism was never banned to my knowledge. There are many
famous Jews who helped build our country to what it is today.
Other religions, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, were accepted.
Convicts were encouraged to marry in the Church of England - in fact in
many cases Irish convicts were forced to do so, as was one of my
ancestors.
I am not sure when we stopped having an official
religion. However, the Queen of England is still Queen of Australia,
and she is head of the Church of England. The government is now moving
towards a republic.
Until the 1970s, it was common for public
schools to recite Church of England prayers and observe C. of E.
practices. Today, schools celebrate Christmas and Easter, but with less
religious emphasis. Moslems make up 2% of our population.
Why was
John Howard not re-elected? I think the big election issue was the war
in Iraq. I think most Australians wanted troops withdrawn, as they felt
it was going the same way as Vietnam, and that war did a lot of harm
here.
The second big issue was his reform of industrial laws.
The Liberal government virtually repealed unfair dismissal laws and
took away weekend loading and many other rights that Australians fought
for over the years. I think he made a big mistake doing this and did
not realize the huge backlash that would happen at election time. Due
to his law reforms, many cases were reported of employers taking
advantage of young workers and denying them their rights.

I consider Australia as one of the Yanks' best allies, and one nation that seems to have its head screwed on right.
In my opinion, most Yanks never even thought about muslims, or knew much about them, pre-9/11/01. Since that time a LOT of Americans have developed a HUGE distaste for the entire cult-like religion. A lot of Yanks---myself included---have done a lot of learning/observation on islam, AND the muslims have gotten MORE emboldened (Rather weird, I'd say---most groups, having had a HUGE calamity done in their name, would be on their BEST behavior, post-calamity. Not so with islam).
Barack Obama, a near certain candidate for President (election is 11/08), was born a muslim, and had/has a father and step-father who were/are muslims. He is mixed race, but considered Black by himself (political reasons?), although he was raised, in later youth, by his white, middle-American grandparents. His mother was a VERY DEVOUT communist, leftist extremist. He has a lot of close friends (and his Christian minister----he later converted to Christianity) who are extreme leftists, anarchists, and bombastic demagogues.
Right now, a LOT of Americans truly wonder "WHO THE HECK IS BARAK OBAMA?" Americans don't really know who he is----including WHAT IS HIS RELIGION?
Obama's Public Relations "spinmeisters" have done a lot to convince people that he is NOT a muslim (BTW, under islamic law he is ABSOLUTELY a muslim-----and a muslim who converts is supposed to be killed)
I have NEVER seen as bizarre an election as this one. Hold onto your hat. This could be a wild ride.
My point, though, is that being a muslim----or worse, maybe, being exposed as a crypto-muslim could be certain political death for Obama (and possible REAL death, if radical muslims see him as a convert from islam)

The Vietnam War, the war with islam (and the bogus palestinain people) in Israel, and (developing) the war in Iraq/Afghanistan are wars where the US and Allies (or Israel) have been clear military victors. The enemies have used propaganda, and manipulation of public opinion to try to overcome their losses. Isreal, for example, beat the butts of Hamas and Hezbollah every time, but the Israeli public (and world) is told by the losers, that they won. All of these wars have been wars with guerillas and have involved tactics where "WE" usually fought under uniform, usually in compliance with Warsaw conventions, BUT the enemy has infiltrated the public, and fought in violation of these conventions---typically hiding in schools, apartments, hospitals, etc.
In Israel, the IDF seeks to avoid collateral damage (very tough), while the enemy seeks collateral damage, to use for propaganda purposes, in the media. Decent media who try to tell the truth, have been killed, beaten, threatened and terrorized. Isn't it interesting that the Allies/Israel have public outcries against their action, BUT the enemy is silent---NO public opposition.
Is the lack of opposition in the muslim public due to total approval OR is it due to fear and killing of opposition? You decide.
Freedom of Speech, imho, is the GREATEST RIGHT on Americans (and Aussies, too?). If our Constitution was freshly written today, I doubt that we would have such broad rights to Free Speech (and gun rights). Hate Crime laws, and similar feel-good laws, only serve to undermine free speech. I'd rather have people curse and defame me all day, than to give up the freedom, of me and others, to be obnoxious . Our Second Amendment to the Constitution (gun rights), IMHO, is what we use, if the First Amendment (free speech) doesn't work.
p.p.p.s. I do not believe that we can totally, permanenetly win any war involving islam. The best that we can do is to bring islam up to date (unlikely) or crush them, humiliate them and grind them down so fully, that they "behave" for a few hundred years.

What are the laws or guarantees of gun rights in Australia?
I am a National Rifle Assn member---the principal guardian of gun rights and the people's right to defend themselves in the USA.
I do not always agree with the NRA on everything, but at least I know where there loyalties exist. I do not see the value of allowing any civilian to easily have any weapon...but that is just my opinion.
I own a few handguns. I have NEVER had to use one on another. Hopefully, I would be skilled enough to save someone or myself, if the time came.
I stay sharp in my skills, BUT I still have the humanity and civility to think before shooting another human (or most animals) BTW hunting is forbidden for Jews by the Torah.
A lot of crime is STOPPED by an armed citizenry.
Banning guns (in addition to being Constitutionally prohibited) would only serve to disarm good people. The criminals will always have guns, and the willingness to use them.
Outlawing guns will work as well as outlawing drugs has worked.

The gun laws were changed a few years back. At the time, I was a
cattle farmer living out west and I owned a couple of guns which were
essential tools of trade for getting rid of vermin. I never needed a
licence. Farmers now do need a licence, but their licence conditions
are much more lenient than for others.
I am a member of the
equivalent of your NRA - the Sporting Shooters Association of
Australia. Unfortunately I moved into a town and I made inquiries as to
how to keep my guns, so I could still help out friends with vermin
control from time to time - and, to be honest, I wanted to feel safe in
my own home. Although that is not a permissible reason to own a gun
here any more.
I discovered that the rules for keeping your guns
are just impossible to follow. You have to be a member of a gun club.
You have to attend that club a minimum of six times a year. You have to
take your guns with you and actually fire all of them at the range. Why
would I want to do that? I only want to go shooting maybe three times a
year, and not on a range, out in the country. The gun club is
responsible for informing the police that you have attended the
required number of shooting days. Fortunately I managed to find a gun
club that told them I did when i didn't.
If you want to sell
your gun, you must inform the nearest firearms dealer. He has to
oversee the selling of the gun. The buyer is not allowed to come to
your house and look at the gun. He has to meet you at the gun dealer's
shop. The gun dealer is responsible for seeing that the paperwork is
transferred to the new owner and a copy goes to the police.
Several
times, police have made appointments with me to inspect my gun storage
facilities, and there are a whole lot of rules about that, with a
result that if you don't pay $700 for a commercially made metal box and
bolt it to your floor you won't pass their requirements. I really
resented having to let police into my bedroom to see where I had bolted
the box. All this for just a .22 rifle and a .410 shotgun - very mild
weapons indeed. It is illegal to own auto or semi-auto weapons here.
When this law came in, many of my farmer friends stored their auto and
semi-auto weapons in pipes in the ground, as they refused to hand them
in to be destroyed by police.
If police come to inspect your
storage facilities and you have already unlocked the metal box and
taken the guns out to show them, they will seize your guns and destroy
them, as they will say you did not have them locked up. The procedure
is, you have the box locked up and the key hidden somewhere. The police
come, they see the locked box, they request you to go and get your key
and they question you about where you hide it and whether anyone else
can find it. Then you unlock the box and police compare the
registration numbers on the guns with your certificates.
I
can't take this any more and am trying to sell my guns. I have had them
advertised for 6 months at a cost that equals more than their value but
it's the principle, I don't want to see them destroyed. People have
inquired about buying but have not been able to get permits to buy.
Others have not been able to travel to my town to meet me at the gun
dealer's shop so they just gave up. It looks like I will be handing
them in to police for destruction. The .22 is a collectors' item, 1948
Lithgow.
But criminals have no problems owning guns. They do not
have to attend gun club meetings. They do not have to pay registration
fees. They do not have to let police into their houses to inspect their
storage facilities. They do not have to meet a buyer at the gun
dealer's shop if they want to sell their guns. Gun crime has not
decreased since the new gun laws came in. It has got worse. And
citizens cannot arm themselves to protect themselves and others from
these criminals.
I know someone who recently reported that a drug
addict owned a gun and had been pointing the loaded weapon at people
who visited the house. They told the police and the police said it
would be impossible to get a search warrant on the say-so of one
person. They said the most they could do would be to go to the
criminal's house (he had a 25 year history of gun crime and other
crime) and ask him if he had a gun. So this is what they did, and of
course he said no, I haven't got any gun. And that was the end of it.
Unless the police catch him in his car or on the street with the gun,
they can do nothing.
A lot of lawful gun owners, forced into
complying with all these impossible demands and paying the huge costs
involved in gun registration and gun club membership, are now wishing
they had never admitted to owning guns when the laws first came in.
Because it is obvious if you just kept your gun under your bed no-one
is ever going to find out. But once you have admitted you have a gun
and have registered it, you are stuck, and as I have found out, you
cannot even sell your guns as they make it impossible. It is a further
attempt to disarm us, to make it impossible for people who no longer
want to shoot in competitions or shoot vermin, to sell their guns, so
that eventually they will hand them in to police. As a last ditch I
will offer the guns free to a gun dealer but even that would probably
be too much trouble for him.
And while I am here talking about
guns, I want to say congratulations to the marksman ranger who has
completely eliminated rabbits from Sydney's Centennial Park. This
operation had to be carried out in the middle of the night while the

I feel sad to hear that Australia (and our neighbor Canada) have been HUGE victims of leftist fascism. YOU ARE LESS SAFE, AND THE RED TAPE AND BUREAUCRACY IS DEEPER. I used to imagine Aussies as being like the movie character, Crocodile Dundee, and the Cannucks (Canadians) being like Paul Bunyan or some noble, tough, self-sufficient woodsman.
I have my guns FUNDAMENTALLY for protection. ALL of my guns are semi-automatic. YOU PRESS THE TRIGGER, AND ANOTHER ROUND IS FIRED.
I have been to Israel a few times. Everywhere you go, you see yound soldiers, armed with their weapons. The crime rate is Israel is VERY low----in all areas. They are surrounded by enemies, so they need to be armed and ready, BUT the civilians are safe. They are not hot heads, and domestic violence with guns is low. Reducing gun crime is NOT solved by reducing guns among decent citizens. It comes about, in part, by people RESPECTING GUNS, and NEVER associating guns as a way to solve problems, that can be solved by arguments or simply walking away.
I have never pulled a gun on another human. I go to the range to keep sharp. I have LOTS of ammo, and my weapons are "Collectible and Relics," which do NOT have to be registered. But all use normal ammo. I do NOT want the government to know what I have and where they are.
Were the Jews of Nazi Germany safer, once Hitler seized all the guns?
Luckily, we Yanks have a Constitution that is fairly clear as to our RIGHTS to be armed. The politicians do try to fight our rights to be armed and safe, but so far, the NRA, the Courts and vigilant citizens have been successful.
AGAIN, I am saddened to see that the disease of Left Wing Fascism has spread to Australia.

-What is the demographic makeup on this forum? I am a 55-year-old married Jewish man, in the Eastern USA. Doctorate degree. Self-employed professional. One adult child. Another child died, two years ago (age 20), secondary to drug use and pre-existing asthma.
--Secondly, isn't there any way that people could either see that they identify themselves EACH TIME they post, and stop allowing to be identified as "Anonymous?" Is there any way that teh underlying software could recognize who is posting, and list the poster?

Well, I'd say the demographic is generally Sydneysiders. I think the
website was set up by a group of anarchists. Because the site is set up
for whistleblowers, it is possible to post messages and stories as
Anonymous, and IP addresses are not logged, for this reason. It would
be good, if someone is having a debate, if they could at least give
themselves a temporary identity so you know who's saying what, as you
point out. Otherwise you might call someone a bastard when you mean
someone else. I don't think we've ever had Jewish person visit
regularly before, but we used to have a Muslim taxi driver! I don't
know where he went - he was a funny bloke - and as opposed to Jews as
