Public Shaming of Philip Ruddock to go ahead despite pressure and accusations

The Public Shaming of Howard-era Minister Philip Ruddock will go ahead this Thursday July at 6pm at the Toxteth Hotel, 345 Glebe Point Rd, Glebe.

This despite a nasty phone call from one of the organisers of the event at which Ruddock is hoping to speak.

PLEASE NOTE: Protesters have no axe to grind with the organisers of "Talking Heads at the Toxteth" (other than that they invited a war criminal and refugee abuser to their event, and were extremely rude on the phone!).

Ruddock is the subject of protest, not the event itself.

How to get to the protest:

Buses: 431, 433, 370 - get off at the Glebe Library and walk about 200 metres north, you'll see the Toxteth Hotel on your right.

If you walk from Central station, it is about 30 minutes walk - Glebe Point Rd is off Broadway, & the Toxteth Hotel is past the old Valhalla cinema.

About Philip Ruddock

Born 12.3.1943!

Elected to Parliament in 1973!

Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs 11.3.1996 to 26.11.2001

Attorney General from 7.10.2003 to 3.12.2007

In regards to refugees, Ruddock said: "The Australian Government’s stance is deliberately tough but necessary in order to protect the capacity of Australia to continue to meet its protection obligations...If a vessel approaching Australian territorial waters is boarded and warned that the passengers cannot enter these waters without proper authorisation and the vessel returns to Indonesia, this does not constitute refoulement on the part of Australia."

So on Thursday he would have to demonstrate that he is authorised to enter Glebe territory, if not he'll have to go back in his 'vessel' - this is not refoulement.

In regards to the terror legislation he said:
"...Just as the nature of the terrorist threat is constantly evolving, so too is the need to ensure our intelligence and law enforcement agencies have every legislative measure they need to keep one step ahead of the terrorists.
We know much more now than we did then about the methods of terrorists and their intentions."

So, we now know more and we know that this war criminal should not be walking freely on the streets of any city, and in Glebe we are going to let him know that we do not forget.

Where there is no justice there is shame - No Amnesty for Ruddock!
