BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - During these tough economic times, many people are struggling to make ends meet. The city's housing market is in a slump, gas and food prices are rising, and some say it's either sink or swim. Now, some women are going to great lengths to make some extra cash right in Baton Rouge... Pole dancing!..
It's a fantasy, an escape for some attempting to close off the outside world. However, for the women inside who are barely clothed and strapped into high heels, exotic dancing can be a way to survive.
"All of my bills were getting to be too much, especially when gas started going up," says one woman, who'll be referred to as Amber throughout the report to protect her identity.
With the average price of gasoline in these parts at an all-time high of $4.00 per gallon, and food costs rising, some women are entering the world of adult entertainment. This world of quick cash is nothing new to Amber. She stripped for three years in local clubs, but took a break after finding out she was pregnant. She then got back into the profession shortly after gas prices started rising and feeding her child got difficult.
"Honestly, there are some days where I just don't eat because I can't afford to go buy food. Especially when it comes to diapers or milk, oh my God."
Amber says she's heard stories of men attempting to rape dancers in the VIP room of some clubs and women being drugged. She admits that climbing the stripper poles can be rough, but in these trying times, some women feel that for them, exotic dancing is the way to go."It's harder. Someone looking up to you. But you know you're doing it for a better cause."
Amber says she is currently in school. She says she knows quite a few women who have recently turned to exotic dancing in order to either pay their bills, get through school, or take care of their children.

NUT General Secretary Steve Sinnott singled out Tesco for marketing a pole dancing kit to children as 'wrong'
Britain's biggest teachers union today condemned leading supermarkets for putting "inappropriate" pressure on children to grow up too fast.
The National Union of Teachers said it was "wrong" that Tesco and Asda were targeting youngsters with products including lace lingerie and pole dancing kits.
The union was launching a report into the commercialisation of childhood at its annual conference in Harrogate today.
NUT General Secretary Steve Sinnott told BBC's Radio Four's Today programme: "This sort of thing is really inappropriate for youngsters. Society is changing, some of it for the better, some not.

"It is wrong to exploit youngsters in this particular way and to target these products.
"Childhood should be about enjoyment and education."
He singled out Tesco for marketing a pole dancing kit to children and Asda for selling black and pink lace lingerie "including push up bras for nine-year-olds".
Such marketing "in effect shortens their childhood, " Mr Sinnott said.
Asda denied the accusations, emphasising that it has never sold a push-up bra for a nine-year-old. The supermarket said it had sold black and pink lace knickers around five years ago, but they had been withdrawn from sale.
"We take our duties as a responsible retailer very seriously indeed," an Asda spokesman said.
Tesco also refuted the allegations.
A spokesman said the pole dancing kit was not sexually oriented and was clearly aimed at adults.
He added that the kit reflected an "exercise craze" and was for those who wanted to improve their fitness and have fun at the same time.

ya gotta love the freedom of capitalist markets ,even if in the first world like t6he U$ it even reduces labour aristocracy women to prostitution and their female children to trainees at pole dancing.
Pole dancing is The feminine art of the first world female gender aristocrats of prick teasing ,or seducing males for cash ,in exchange for hollywood dreams .
Artists too ,also have the fredom to deliver up for cash sexy images of young children ,that must of course only be viewed intelectualy in the artistic context ,as eternal arts and values.Its all about form and has no content in opur society.
As the economic crisis builds , the U$ dollar hegenomy collapses and housing and food prices spiral out of control perhaps the next stage after prostitution and sexual degredation for women is starvation ,unless some new way is found to deliver cheaper goodies from the third world.
The sexual liberation army of imperialism and western values is delivering up freedom for the women of afghanistan.
The qiuickest way to win this war may be make the veil ilegal and to arrange an airdrop of pole dancing kits as aid instead of the usual cluster bombs.
