Social Anarchism/The Challenge of National Self-determination . Anarchism and Nationalism

by Matt Hern:  Speaking about anarchism and nationalist self-determination is a perilousprospect. In one sense, nationalism has always been anathema toanarchists. The idea of nationalism is in direct contradiction to traditionally reified anarchist ideas of voluntary association andautonomous communities. Yet compelling self-determination movements across
the world continue to challenge anarchist notions of affiliation, loyalty
and governance. I believe it critical for contemporary anarchists to
confront that challenge thrusts.

South American anarchists and anti-militarists say NO to war

* The threat of armed conflict involving the governments of Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela has mobilized anarchists and anti-militarists across the continent, in words and in action, to repudiate what would be a monstrous aggression by state powers against our peoples. Below there are two documents that call for struggle against this evil.

The Revolt of May 1968

In the late 1960s, students from imperialist countries around the world
demonstrated their internationalism principally through their protest of the
imperialist genocide in Vietnam. much has has been written about the Amerikan story of these movements, in articles about Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), and
Weatherman, an underground splinter group from SDS.

[Spain] Anarchist website condemned to pay 6000 € to rock-star celebrity

One of the main anarchist websites in spanish language,
alasbarricadas.org, will have to pay 6,000 euro to a rock-star,
Ramoncin, for some anonymous comments in one of their public forums.
Those comments were considered as ‘ofensive’ to the artist ‘honour’.

The trial took place in Madrid, the 12th of September. The judge
found the website guilty of having discredited this mediatic celebrity.
Apparently in Spain it is more important the ‘honour’ than the freedom
of speech and press.
