Solidarity with Videographer arrested at APEC
Posted February 5th, 2008 by AnonymousUsing unnecessary force and intimidation, police arrested peaceful protesters at the end of the rally at the APEC summit in Sydney in September 2007. While filming these police actions, Melbourne-based independent filmmaker Marcela Olea was arrested and her gear destroyed. She now faces two charges of assaulting police and one charge of resisting arrest.
Expenses for travel, court, counseling and equipment replacement have and will take an immense toll on her and her family.

Lessons from APEC protest - Why was it just STOP Bush???
Posted September 13th, 2007 by Anonymousby Spana
I attended the APEC protest last week and like everyone was disgusted with the abandonment of civil liberties and police presence. The are a couple of points which I believe we must examine as a movement.

Stop police violations of due process and civil rights
Posted September 12th, 2007 by Anonymous
NSW police cannot be trusted to keep their velcro-backed cotton name badges on while patrolling protest marches. This is not a new phenomenon at APEC- NSW Police have past form with removing name badges to circumvent accountability for assault claims.
Officers could be made more easily identifiable, even at a distance, if jumpsuits had a large identifying number printed on the front and back. Each uniform would be uniquely numbered and officers would be held responsible for each numbered uniform, just as they are responsible for their service firearm.

Human Rights Abrogated with Extradition Treaty signed with China
Posted September 11th, 2007 by takverAt the APEC forum meeting Australia signed an extradition treaty with China on September 6. Great, some international co-operation on crime and extradition and transferring prisoners from one legal jurisdiction to another. But hang on, China executes more citizens than any other state and its human rights record is abyssmal. Just ask the Falun Dafa people. Or Tibetan followers of the Dalai Lama.

APEC: Protests, people peaceful, police brutality
Posted September 11th, 2007 by Anonymous"330 million dollars for fences, hyper security, police brutality and assault that Sydney has never seen before. And for what? Selling uranium to India and Russia, and a token aspiration to aspire to meet on climate change."

Posted September 10th, 2007 by Vera"Greg Mcleay was
arrested and spent 22 hours in jail, as well as being strip-searched,
for crossing the road with his 11 year old son during the APEC summit
in Sydney. Mr Mcleay and his son were on their way to get yum cha for
lunch when they crossed the road which was apparently going to be used
for a motorcade later in the day.
Mr Mcleay's son can be seen at one point on the right of the video, watching his father being arrested."
