Anti-Terror Cops Force Closure of Palestine Exhibition

SMH reports Anti-Terror  police counter-terrorism operations confronted Leichhardt municipal library staff shortly before 8pm on Thursday 8th May 2008 in relation to an exhibition of photos, poems and articles. The exhibition organised by Friends of Hebron entitled "Al-Nakba" (meaning "day of the catastrophe") was to open on Friday but the display was removed friday morning.

A police spokesman said the officers had come only to "say hi" to Friends of Hebron members.

WA Government send Police to raid Sunday Times newspaper


The Western Australian Government ordered armed Perth Police troops to raid the Sunday Times newspaper office. The State Police forces were ordered to recover materials related to Government corruption, which the the Sunday Times had exposed.

including a female officer, entered a sacred site near the community

Each year around december and January the Lajamanu Warlpiri community hold an important Men's Initiation Ceremony for the young men. It is called the Kurdiji and lasts for several weeks. It is a rite of passage where boys become men in accordance with Warlpiri Law. This year the ceremony was interupted when a women entered a restricted ceremony area. A place where women and children are forebidden under Warlpiri Law. Here some of the Warlpiri leaders and elders talk about what happened and how it has affected the community.

"Here am beeped by a black van. When I catch up 20 seconds later, I ask whats the problem. He's busy talking on a phone (hand free) so we trade hand signals. I fake a spit on he car, and ride off. 2 minutes later he uses his horn again, cuts me off (I slap the side of his van). He turns the corner, gets out and we have a standoff (he is to close for the camera)."
